Would You Like Audio Posts?
I'm considering adding a podcast with audio versions of my text posts
Some people make audio recordings of their blog posts, which makes them more accessible. I like the idea, but haven’t attempted it because it intimidates me. I hate hearing my own voice. There’s also a learning curve (mastering audio recording and editing software), and a time commitment (eg, potentially recording multiple takes of the equivalent of 10 pages).
However, a couple of you recently told me you’re more likely to listen than to read.
That makes sense. Audio leaves your hands and eyes free, so you can listen while you do your dishes or drive. That’s much more convenient.
Also, the more ways we learn something, the better we remember it. We learn more from both sight and hearing than we do from either sense alone. So, even if you enjoy reading on a screen, you might like an audio version, too.
The one downside: adding audio recordings will increase the time between posts a bit.
(In case you were wondering: if the post is free, the audio version will be, too).
I’m 99% certain I’ll do it.
Still, I’m wondering how much of a difference it’ll make.
How would adding a podcast affect your experience?
This is the perfect opportunity to ask, are there any particular kinds of media you especially like, or dislike?
Reading text
Looking at still images
Watching a video
Listening to audio.
Personally, I’m most comfortable with text, as are many people on Substack. I also like looking at still images, and am coming to like audio. I despise video. How about you?
Thank you for bearing with the recent blog-related announcements. We’ll be back to neurodiversity science soon!
