I heard about the drink that David Nutt has helped create - is it actually on the market yet? Have you tried it?

For everything else you say in your paper, alas it is almost always some sham thing.

It seems to be on the market, and I haven't... yet. But now I might try it out, just to see what happens. Will you?

Just seen it's actually on Amazon, I could have it delivered tomorrow 😂. £32 it's not cheap. Surely, he has tested it before, there will be some clinical trials?

Have you seen products use this trick of claiming non-existent scientific support?

I'm sure I have. I'm all too aware of deceptive marketing. I basically treat anything in an advertizement as a lie.

How much does it matter to you whether a food, supplement, or therapy has been tested in scientific studies?

It matters a tremendous amount to me. I trust the FDA. Well, at least I used to, back when it was fully staffed. I want more than just peer-reviewed studies, as they're being shown to be ever increasingly fraudulent, even before the AI information apocalypse. I like my studies vetted by knowledgeable regulatory authority.

Are there cases where you might use a product that hasn’t (yet) been scientifically shown to work?

I think ashwagandha has been shown to work and be safe, but not by the FDA so I take my internet research with a grain of salt. I know I don't know enough to vet or validate the study. I take the pill, and can feel its effects clearly. It's the only dietary supplement I've ever even tried. I'm exceedingly suspicious of those, and this one as well. But I hurt and it helps.

Great point, even with multiple peer reviewed studies, some could be fraudulent, and the FDA can provide additional and corrective perspective.

Do you suppose the FDA has more incentives to stay honest than university researchers? I bet there's less pressure to "publish or perish".

I'm glad to hear you found a supplement that helps. It can be so hard to treat chronic pain. I'm not familiar with research on your supplement specifically. From what you said, it sounds like research is still in progress, at least in the US, and you're ahead of the curve. 😁

I occasionally try things that are new and not well supported, but I think will be in the future. For example, I tried an auditory training program. If it had helped, my social and professional life would have bloomed. Instead, I was out a little time and a lot of money. That's the risk I chose 🤷‍♀️

My problem is cortisol. Stress hormones in general. I just had them tested, and the results were so far off the charts that the lab wouldn't even post them. They just posted a message, "either this guy screwed up collecting the specimen or he's on drugs". And even /that/ was saying too much because it got deleted out of my records before my doctor saw it.

Ashwagandha very much helps stress. Like weed does, and with the same drawback. It kills your motivation. See "Serenity" for a fuller exploration of this effect. In my case, it almost makes life worth living.
